House help waylaid, robbed in Adarsh Nagar
There seems to be no let-up in rising incidents of snatching and robbery in the city. Moreover, the videos being posted by the city police on social media highlighting the treatment given to criminals have also failed to act as a deterrent. In yet another such incident, a house help, identified as Karan, who originally hails from Nepal, was robbed of a mere Rs 300 by three men riding an Activa scooter. The incident occurred on Saturday night in Adarsh Nagar, one of the city’s upscale locality.
The victim, returning to his employer’s home after an errand, was waylaid by the armed trio near Adarsh Nagar Park. Despite his efforts to run away, the robbers chased him while brandishing sharp weapons and made off with Rs 300, the only money the victim had. The entire incident was captured on the CCTV camera footage, showing the attackers boldly holding the victim without covering their faces.
“They robbed only Rs 300 from Karan,” said Rajiv Duggal, a businessman. He confirmed that the crime took place around 10 pm in a back lane behind the Kanta Chhuri Restaurant. He said the victim works at his friend’s house in the Adarsh Nagar locality. In the footage, the robbers first attempted to stop the house help while he was 20 metres away from his employer’s residence. The victim managed to slip past assailants’ scooter, but they soon caught hold of him and forced him to part with the small amount he had before fleeing from the spot.
A complaint in this regard was lodged with the Division No. 2 police station after which a probe was initiated into the matter. Residents are baffled and concerned at the sheer brazenness of the crime, which took place in a posh locality.
“Such crime is taking place every day in the city. Now, criminals have started entering houses of residents without any fear of the law,” said Kalpesh Mishra, a resident. He said strict measures were required to bring the law-and-order situation under control in the industrial town.
