Hoshiarpur cyclothon sets record with 8,980 participants
The Sachdeva Stocks Hoshiarpur Cyclothon Season 4, organised by the Fit Biker Club Hoshiarpur, has made history by securing a place in the India Book of Records as the largest cyclothon in the country, with 8,980 participants. The event, held today, saw not only pre-registered children and adults but also around 1,100 additional participants who joined on the morning of the cyclothon.
The event began at 7.30 am with 3,000 children aged 4 to 10 years setting off on a four-kilometre route, flagged off by Deepak Mittal, the managing director of Sonalika Group. At 8.30 am, participants aged 10 to 80 years embarked on a 20 km ride. The event featured performances, including a Saraswati Vandana by children from Asha Kiran School and a Bhangra performance by SD College students.
A highlight was the oath administered by the DSP, Dr Manpreet Shimar, promoting a plastic-free and drug-free Punjab, which was the theme of the cyclothon. The chief guest, Deepak Mittal, praised the Fit Biker Club for its achievement and promised continued support from Sonalika Group. The Deputy Commissioner and SSP also congratulated the club, particularly for the strong participation of children.
Paramjeet Sachdeva, president of the Fit Biker Club, announced that Rs 2.06 lakh collected from registration fees would be donated to Asha Kiran Special School for children with special needs. Additionally, 800 plants were distributed to participants as part of an environmental initiative. Dr Sheetal from the India Book of Records presented certificates and medals to the event organisers.
