A private company has come forward to provide solar lights in Malana village of Kullu district, which plunged into darkness on July 31 following a severe cloudburst. Around 300 solar lights have been allocated to the village, with additional lights expected to arrive soon to meet the extra demand of electricity supply at night.
SDM, Kullu Sadar, Vikas Shukla expressed gratitude to the MakeMyTrip Foundation for the assistance. He said that the administration was working to complete relief efforts and restore normalcy to the village.
The destruction caused by the cloudburst left Malana village without electricity and the restoration of power lines is expected to take considerable time. The electricity board has begun the process for laying new lines and restoration efforts are going on.
Raju Ram, pradhan of Malana gram panchayat, highlighted the critical role of solar lights in the village. He said, “Since the cloudburst, our village has been enveloped in darkness. Until the main power supply is restored, these solar lights will be helpful in illuminating our village.”
The cloudburst, which occurred on the night of July 31, had caused severe damage to power lines over 13 km, Malana hydroelectric power project and the road leading to the village.
