A Zomato food delivery boy, who suffered serious injuries after being hit by an unknown rashly driven car on July 4, succumbed to his injuries. He was undergoing treatment at a hospital but could not survive due to his critical injuries.

Complainant Lakhi Mahato, wife of the deceased, a resident of Ranchi Colony, said her husband Rajesh Kumar had been working as a delivery boy with Zomato since 2022. Late on the night of July 4, her husband after collecting an order from some fast food outlet was heading towards Bhai Bala Chowk on his motorcycle. After some time, when she tried to call him, his mobile was switched off.

After half-an-hour, she got a call from some other delivery boy, who informed her that her husband had met with a road accident on the Tibba road and suffered serious injuries, the deceased’s wife said, adding that afterwards, she, along with her brother-in-law, went to the scene. Following which, an ambulance was called and the victim was taken to the Civil Hospital. On July 5, he succumbed to his injuries.

Tibba SHO Bhagtveer Singh said the victim was hit by a car (bearing registration no PB23 R 4455) and now, a probe was launched to identify the car driver.

Notably, some people on social media had spread a rumour that the deceased had not met with any accident, instead, he was attacked by robbers. However, the police today issued a statement that an accident was the cause behind the victim’s death.
