Historic mandate reflects trust in govt policies: Haryana Guv
Attributing the “historic and decisive” mandate for a third consecutive term to the BJP to its policies and programmes, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya emphasised that the “the difference between the Haryana a decade ago and Haryana today is crystal clear”.
Addressing the newly elected members on the first day of the second sitting of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha’s session, here today, the Governor, in his 35-minute long address, said the state had made rapid strides under the government in the last decade. The BJP assumed power in Haryana for the first time in 2014, ending the two-term rule of the Congress in the state.
Dattatreya went on to explain that in the last decade, the state had a “strong presence on the national stage” when it came to per capita income, development of industries, innovation in agriculture or providing social security.
Appreciating the state government for “carrying forward a mission of service, security, good governance, cooperation and uplifting of the Antyodaya”, Dattatreya said the people had expressed their faith in the government’s policies through their votes.
Reiterating his government’s commitment to securing its share in the Ravi and Beas rivers as also to completing the SYL, an emotive issue in the state, he reiterated the government’s commitment of employing every former Agniveer.
Highlighting that the government fulfilled its pre-election promise of giving 26,000 jobs, the Governor, touching upon the growing problem of illegal immigration, said the problem of youth taking the “donkey route” to foreign shores would be eliminated by providing guidance to those keen on employment abroad.
On the farmers, he said the government had already eradicated “abiyana” (a traditional tax) and Haryana is the first state to purchase 24 crops on MSP. He said the government would promote crops requiring less water, enact stricter laws to check the challenge from fake seed, fertilisers and pesticides. He added that the farmers would continue to receive crop purchase payments within 48 hours through DBT.
He said the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” programme had resulted in the sex ratio increasing from 871 in 2014 to over 900. Stating that sports infrastructure would be upgraded, he appreciated the performance of the sportspersons in bringing medals from the Paris Olympics.
He underlined that 40 MLAs in the House were first-timers and that 13 women had been elected to the 15th Haryana Vidhan Sabha, expressing confidence that the legislators would perform their duties with sincerity. He concluded by stating that every decision should be taken after assessing its impact on the weakest and poorest man of the society, in keeping with the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology.
