Hisar coldest in state at 1.6°C, yellow alert in place till Dec 5
Hisar emerged as the coldest place in Haryana as the night temperature plunged to 1.6°C on Wednesday night. The state has witnessed an average drop of -0.9°C in minimum temperatures compared to yesterday. The current minimum temperature is 3.7°C below normal, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin released today evening.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for most of the state, barring Jind, Panipat and Gurugram districts until December 15. The advisory urges residents to take precautions against the extreme cold, especially in areas like Hisar, which recorded the lowest temperature.
In Bhiwani, Deputy Commissioner Mahavir Kaushik has issued a public advisory in line with the guidelines of the Haryana State Revenue and Disaster Management Department. Residents have been urged to protect themselves from the cold wave and frost, especially the elderly and children, who are more susceptible to cold-related illnesses.
The DC also emphasised the importance of community care, urging residents to check on elderly neighbours and those living alone. "Ensure that emergency supplies are available, and special attention is given to vulnerable groups," Kaushik said.
To mitigate the effects of the cold wave, directives have been issued to ensure all night shelters (Rain Baseras) in the district are operational and fully equipped with necessary amenities. The DC emphasised that no homeless individual should be left to sleep outdoors in these freezing conditions.
“We appeal to the public to cooperate in protecting homeless individuals and ensure their safety during this harsh winter,” he added.
The IMD has advised residents across Haryana to brace for continued chilly weather, as temperatures are expected to remain below normal in the coming days.
