Himachali diaspora hosts cultural exchange event in Bahrain
The Himachali Diaspora in Bahrain, in collaboration with the Indian Embassy, launched a cultural exchange programme yesterday at the embassy. Rajan Sharma, a resident of Nadaun and event coordinator, shared that the programme aims to showcase Himachal Pradesh’s vibrant culture, traditional cuisine, attire, and rich heritage. The initiative aligns with the Himachal Pradesh government’s ‘One District One Product’ scheme and will run for three months with intermittent breaks.
The exhibition features iconic Himachali products like Kullu shawls, Kangra tea, Chamba Rumals, traditional jewellery, and a display titled “Bride of Himachal.” It also highlights the region’s traditional cuisine and lifestyle.
Vinod Jacob, the Indian Ambassador to Bahrain, inaugurated the event and emphasized its significance as the first of its kind in Bahrain. He noted the importance of promoting India’s diverse cultural heritage globally and highlighted how the event would entertain and engage the Indian diaspora in Bahrain.
Nigam Sharma, co-convener, announced that a team from SaReGaMa Academy, Himachal Pradesh, would visit Bahrain in January to present Himachali folk culture, Indian classical music, and a Sham-e-Ghazal at the embassy. Ajay Dogra, leader of the cultural troupe, expressed excitement about performing on an international stage and revealed that preparations for the Bahrain tour are underway. This initiative represents a unique effort to bridge cultures and celebrate the essence of Himachal Pradesh on foreign soil.
