Over a hundred research scholars and faculty members attended a one-day national workshop on Liquid Chromatography (LC) and Mass Spectrometry (MS) at Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla. Sponsored by Waters India Pvt Ltd, a leader in analytical instruments, the workshop was held in the Hari Om Agrawal Seminar Hall, Department of Biotechnology.

The event, co-hosted by Prof Reena Gupta, Chairperson of the Department of Biotechnology, and Dr Mahender Singh Thakur, Chairperson of the Department of Forensic Science, aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of LC and MS technologies. The workshop emphasized cross-departmental collaboration, with both hosts highlighting its importance for scientific advancement.

Experts from Waters India Pvt Ltd shared recent developments in LC and MS, demonstrating their applications across fields such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, environmental science, and forensic science. The workshop offered hands-on insights into the innovative uses of LC and MS in detecting and analyzing complex compounds.

Guest speaker Prof Sanjay Jachak, former Head of the Department of Natural Products at NIPER, Mohali, discussed the impact of HPLC, UPLC, and LC-MS in natural products research, stressing their accuracy in complex mixture analysis. Dr. Vishal Khatavkar from Waters India highlighted advancements in mass spectrometry, while Amod Prakash Yadav and Mr. Raju Mehra focused on liquid chromatography improvements and method development in analytical chemistry.

The event provided a valuable platform for researchers and professionals to explore cutting-edge techniques in chromatography and spectrometry, fostering practical knowledge and innovation in analytical science.
