Workshop on chronic & acute pain at AIIMS
The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care of All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bilaspur, under the aegis of the Research Society of Anesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology organised a full day chronic pain, acute pain and point-of-care ultrasound national workshop on Sunday in the Skill Lab and Simulation Centre of AIIMS.
The hands-on workshop was presided over by the Executive Director Prof (Dr) Vir Singh Negi, Deputy Director Administration Lt Col M Hariharan, along with the Founder member RSACP Dr Tej K Kaul, Honorary Secretary RSACP Dr Vishal Singla and Treasurer RSACP Dr Sunil Sethi. The department, under the guidance of Dr Vijayalakshmi Sivapurapu, had invited 21 expert faculty including professors from various INIs and other reputed Medical Colleges all over India.
The workshop was well attended by over 45 delegates (postgraduates of anaesthesiology, general medicine, paediatrics, general surgery) from the Himachal Pradesh and neighbouring states as well. There were 9 stations in the workshop from 8.30 am to 6 pm and included scanning of throat, lungs, heart, abdomen, optic nerve, brain circulation, stomach, clot in legs, chronic pain blocks and blocks given for trauma patients.
These point-of-care (bedside) scanning techniques, which were taught in this extensive workshop help in diagnosis of significant findings and immediate management which are essential for emergency patient care. AIIMS has been taking steps to continuing education and improving clinical skills of its postgraduates and surrounding medical colleges as well. This National Workshop was the first of its kind which was conducted extensively for skill training and also training them with simulators. Such workshops will be envisioned in future too by AIIMS Bilaspur for benefit of state-of-the-art patient care as well as excellence in medical education.
