Women outnumber men voters in Hamirpur bypoll

Hamirpur, July 9

As many as 76,892 voters comprising 38,793 women, 38,098 men and one third gender will exercise their right to franchise tomorrow to elect the MLA in the Hamirpur Assembly byelection. Amarjit Singh, District Returning Officer, said that the election parties reached all 94 polling stations in the district today.

BJP candidate Ashish Sharma, Congress’ Pushpinder Verma and one Independent candidate Nand Lal are fighting the byelection.

Amarjit Singh said that the voting would start at 7 am and conclude at 6 pm. Security arrangements were reviewed and armed security personnel were deployed at critical polling stations, he added.

He said that all voting machines would be kept in the strongroom set up at Government Senior Secondary School for Boys under tight security. The strongroom and counting stations were under CCTV camera surveillance and no unauthorised person would be allowed to enter the restricted zones. All efforts had been made for the peaceful conduct of the election process, he added.
