The Congress candidate for the Hamirpur Assembly bypoll, Pushpinder Verma, today said people of the constituency should vote for a stable government and development in the constituency.

Addressing election meetings at various places in the constituency, Verma said BJP candidate Ashish Sharma had no reason to resign from the Vidhan Sabha and he quit only after striking a deal with BJP leaders. He asked voters to give him a chance to serve them as they had elected Sharma 15 months.

Verma said the BJP candidate requested the Speaker of Legislative Assembly to accept his resignation despite that the latter advised him to rethink on his resignation. He added that when the Speaker delayed accepting the resignation, Ashish Sharma sat to protest on the Vidhan Sabha complex and later moved the Himachal Pradesh High Court to get his resignation accepted.

He added that people of the constituency must ask the BJP candidate that once he resigned as MLA, why is he contesting the election again. Verma said in his resignation to the Speaker, Ashish Sharma had mentioned that he did not want to remain an MLA.

The Congress candidate said there was no surety that a person who resigned after 15 months would not repeat the act for his business interests. He said this was the time to add pace to the development of the constituency as the CM is from the district and he had assured him that every development work would be done on priority. Verma addressed election meetings at Sasan, Gajoh, Ropa, Kale-Amb, Bharin, Swahal, Lambloo and Harned villages besides ward No. 1 of the town.
