Vidhan Sabha panel finds irregularities at govt college hostel, Theog hospital
After detecting irregularities in construction of a hospital and hostel building of the Government College at Theog, the public accounts committee of the Vidhan Sabha has said action must be taken against erring officials.
The public accounts committee of the Vidhan Sabha inspected various development works in the Kufri and Theog areas of Shimla district during the last two days. Committee chairman Sanjay Rattan along with other MLAs took stock of various development works of the Special Area Development Authority (SADA), Kufri, and gave necessary instructions to officials concerned.
Other members of the committee, Kewal Singh Pathania, Kuldeep Singh Rathore and Vivek Sharma, were also present during the inspection of works. The committee also inspected the unsafe hostel building of the Government College, Theog. The chairman said the construction work of the building was done by the Himachal Pradesh Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA) on which an amount of about Rs 2.50 crore was spent. “Since the matter is related to the safety of students, so this building will not be used by them,” the chairman said.
He also directed HIMUDA, Shimla district administration and the Education Department to submit their report on the unsafe hostel building within 15 days. “Departmental action must be taken against officials concerned in this regard so that such an incident does not happen in the future,” said Rattan.
Besides, the committee also asked the National Highway officials to submit their report. He said after receiving all reports, the committee would take its decision on matters concerned. The committee also inspected Theog Hospital and detected irregularities in its construction. A report has been sought from the Deputy Commissioner in this connection within 15 days so action could be taken against the guilty.
A meeting was also held, during which various issues related to the Theog Nagar Parishad were discussed in detail and necessary instructions given to officials concerned to address them.
The committee sought details about the year-wise development works undertaken in Kufri, a popular tourist destination. The committee chairman asked the authority to focus on fund generation so that proper facilities could be made available to the people of the area. The committee also gave instructions for taking action against officials who were absent from the meeting.
Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, Shimla Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi and officials from other departments were present at the meeting.
