Vallabh Government College honours martyred alumnus
Vallabh Government College, Mandi, in collaboration with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), held a solemn Martyrdom Day event to honour the sacrifice of martyred Assistant Commandant Surender Pal Singh here today.
The event was presided over by Flying Officer Dr Chaman, with participation from the NCC Air Force and Army Wing units, alongside ITBP personnel.
A floral tribute ceremony was conducted at the Martyrs’ Memorial.
Dr Chaman, ITBP Assistant Inspector Yuvraj Sharma, and the martyr’s wife, Beena Guleriya, laid wreaths in memory of Surender Pal Singh, paying their respects to his valour and sacrifice.
In a heartfelt address to the cadets, Dr Chaman emphasised the importance of national security, honour and welfare, stating that these values should always remain paramount. He also highlighted the exemplary contributions of former students and NCC cadets of Vallabh College, who have brought fame to the institution both nationally and internationally.
“Assistant Commandant Surender Pal Singh, a former student of Vallabh College, Mandi, sacrificed his life in Jammu and Kashmir fighting terrorists. His bravery, during an operation in which he killed three militants, has left a lasting legacy of courage and commitment to the nation” said Dr Chaman.
Singh’s life served as an inspiration to students, encouraging them to follow in his footsteps in serving the country, he added.
The ceremony also featured a recounting of Surendra Pal’s heroic deeds by Assistant Sub-Inspector Yuvraj Sharma, who shared details of the operation with the cadets and students.
In a gesture of remembrance, Dr Chaman presented a memento to Beena Guleriya. The ITBP also offered refreshments to the cadets and students attending the event.
Principal Surina Sharma expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of the martyr, wishing them strength and a bright future.
The ceremony saw participation from a number of dignitaries, including HP Government College Teachers’ Association state president Banita Saklani, retired Inspector Devender Pal Singh and the martyr’s relatives.
The event was also attended by hundreds of NCC cadets and students, who paid tribute to the supreme sacrifice made by Surender Pal Singh for the nation.
