Shimla, July 16

The process to shift super-specialty departments from the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC), Shimla, to the Atal Institute of Super Specialities, Chamiyana, has begun. The Outdoor Patient Department (OPD) of urology will be shifted fully to the Chamiyana facility next week.

The Department of Gastroenterology will hold an OPD in the new hospital every Friday, besides the OPD at the IGMC on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

“It’s the government’s mandate to make the super-specialty hospital fully functional at the earliest and shift all such departments there from IGMC,” said Dr Brij, principal of the super-specialty hospital. “In view of that, the OPD of the Urology Department is being shifted there and the Department of Gastroenterology will hold OPD there every Friday,” he added.

Dr Pamposh Raina, HoD, Department of Urology, said the OPD and small procedures related to OPD will be conducted at the super-specialty hospital from next week. “The emergency services of the department will, however, continue at the IGMC for the time being. We are hoping to shift emergency services as well to the new hospital by the year-end,” said Dr Raina.
