Two teachers killed, two injured as car plunges into gorge
Two teachers were killed and two critically injured after the car they were travelling in veered off the road and plunged into a gorge near Tyari bridge on Khadamukh-Holi Road in Bharmour late on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as 57-year-old Dilip Kumar, a resident of Saraina Rakh village, and 55-year-old Naveen Kumar from Jabbal village. Dilip Kumar died on the spot, while Naveen Kumar, a primary school teacher, succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital. The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
The two injured teachers — Kamlesh Kumar of Holi village, and Jarm Singh of Kalaha village — have been shifted to Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC), Tanda, where their condition is said to be stable.
Chamba Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav said the mishap took place when the teachers were returning from an under-19 sports competition at the Government Senior Secondary School, Holi.
Locals, upon hearing about the crash, rushed to the scene and began rescue operations, besides informing the police.
The police have registered a case and were conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident. The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their families after a post-mortem.
