The triple talaq law was enacted in India on September 19, 2018. The law criminalises the practice of a Muslim husband divorcing his wife by uttering ‘talaq’ three times. Under this legislation, police can arrest the accused husband without a warrant, and the law provides for both punishment and fines for the offense.
