Tributes paid to Bhai Hirdaram on his 139th birth anniv in Mandi
The 139th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Bhai Hirdaram was celebrated here today with great reverence.
Members of the Bhai Hirdaram Memorial Committee — including secretary Krishan Kumar Nutan, Bhai Hirdaram’s grandson Shamser Singh Manhas, and other family members — along with as Mandi Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Madhuri Kapoor, Rajput Sabha president Inder Singh Thakur, Murari Sharma, Pandit Manohar Lal, Ashok Awasti, Man Singh Rana, Ganga Ram Raji, Amar Singh Guleria, Dharmender Rana, Praveen Sharma, and Harmit Singh, paid floral tributes to the freedom fighter at his statue located in Indira Market.
Nutan spoke about the life and contributions of the revolutionary leader, describing him as a true patriot who endured torture by the British for India’s freedom. He also highlighted Bhai Hirdaram’s crucial role in establishing the Ghadar Party and initiating the revolutionary movement against British rule in Mandi, stating that his legacy would remain unforgettable.
The Deputy Mayor praised Bhai Hirdaram for his immense contribution to Independence, acknowledging his sacrifices and expressing gratitude to author KK Nutan for immortalising his legacy.
She said Bhai Hirdaram served a life sentence in the Andaman Cellular Jail alongside revolutionary Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Bhai Hirdaram was born on November 28, 1885, in Mandi and passed away on August 21, 1965. Various other speakers, including Murari Sharma, Manohar Lal, Inder Singh Thakur, Man Singh Rana, Ganga Ram, Praveen Sharma, and Harmit Singh, also paid tributes to Bhai Hirdaram, recalling his significant contributions to the Indian freedom struggle.
