As a precautionary measure against flashfloods, the district administration has issued a stern warning to both tourists and local residents to refrain from approaching the swollen Beas and the Suketi. Following heavy rainfall in the region over the past few days, the water level in these rivers have risen beyond the normal levels, posing a threat to anyone in their close proximity.

Warning signs, barriers put up

Om Kant Thakur, SDM, Mandi, stated that the water levels in the Beas and the Suketi had increased considerably, posing danger to anyone venturing too close to their banks. The local authorities have also set up warning signage and barriers along vulnerable stretches of the rivers, urging people to heed to the cautionary measures in place. Tourist resorts and hotels located in close proximity to these water bodies had been advised to inform their guests about the potential risks and restrict access to the river-facing areas until further notice.

Residents living in low-lying areas near the rivers have been advised to remain vigilant. Relief and rescue teams have been placed on standby to respond swiftly to any emergencies that may arise due to the rising waters.

The Meteorological Department has predicted continued rainfall in the region over the next 48 hours, further heightening concerns about the rivers’ water levels. The district administration has urged everyone to stay updated with the latest weather advisories and to avoid unnecessary risks by venturing close to the rivers.
