Tourist slips into gorge in avalanche-prone area in Lahaul and Spiti’s Koksar; dies

A 24-year-old female tourist died on Sunday at Koksar in tribal Lahaul and Spiti district. While roaming near Koksar waterfall, the woman, a native of Jaipur, slipped into a gorge as the surface she was walking on caved in suddenly.
According to police, Akansha (24) while roaming around an avalanche-prone area near the waterfall, slipped into the gorge and got buried under the snow. The incident was reported to police at Sissu check post around 5 pm.
Lahaul and Spiti Deputy Commissioner Neeraj Kumar said a rescue team comprising personnel of ITBP, police, fire brigade and district administration besides locals rushed the spot. After three hours of effort, the rescue team succeeded in taking the woman out of the gorge.
The DC added that her condition was critical and she was referred to Manali for treatment. She died on the way.
“The victim’s family has been informed about this incident. The body will be handed over to the family of the deceased tomorrow,” the DC said.
