Team approach vital in cardiac management: Expert

A team approach plays a vital role in the management and treatment of cardiac patients. This was stated by Dr Deepak Puri, a cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon, while addressing the sixth conference on “Continuing medical education of north chapter of anatomists’ society” at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bilaspur today.

He said patients managed by a comprehensive team approach in the last decade showed less ICU and hospital stay with the mortality rate declining significantly. He said the most challenging critical situation was acute ischemic heart failure. He said team approach was necessary for better outcomes as well as reducing the cost involved.
