TB eradication programme in Shimla from Dec 7
National Tuberculosis Eradication Program would commence in Shimla district on December 7 and continue until March 17, 2025. This was stated by Deputy Commissioner, Shimla Anupam Kashyap while chairing a meeting of the District TB Forum, District TB-cum-Co-morbidity Committee, and District Tuberculosis Eradication Committee.
He said that the campaign aims to ensure active public participation to make Shimla district tuberculosis-free. “Several activities will be organized under the campaign. These activities include participation from elected representatives, involving youth, administering the Nikshay Pledge in government departments, organizing Nikshay camps, screening people through the Nikshay vehicle, and ensuring media participation in spreading awareness” said the DC.
During the meeting officials from the Health department presented a detailed overview of the activities planned under the campaign. DC said that a mapping exercise had identified 115,000 people in the high-risk category in the district. Nikshay camps will be organized at the district, block, and panchayat levels as part of the initiative. The Nikshay vehicle will also be deployed across the district, reaching rural areas to raise awareness about tuberculosis and conduct testing.
He further assured that necessary resources, including X-ray machines, vehicles, and other equipment, would be provided to ensure comprehensive coverage of the targeted population. DC also sought the cooperation of other departments to ensure the successful implementation of the program.
