A three-day motor rally was organised recently at the picturesque tourism village of Sissu in the tribal district Lahaul and Spiti, showcasing the skills of over 40 participants from across the country.

This year’s rally not only celebrated the thrill of motorsports, but also emphasised road safety and universal brotherhood.

Among the standout competitors was Tanvi Gupta from Manali, who clinched the top spot in the women’s category in the car race competition. In the men’s category, Sonu Thakur clinched the first position. Nitish emerged victorious in the motorbike competition.

As a member of the Himalayan Xtreme Sports Association, Tanvi Gupta expressed her determination to compete in the upcoming national rally championship, aiming to demonstrate that women from mountainous regions could excel in a field traditionally dominated by men. Mountain Motorsports Club president Pawan Negi said the rally served as a vital platform for showcasing talents often overlooked, while also raising awareness about the dangers of reckless driving and stunts on public roads.

He highlighted the importance of such events in promoting safe driving practices, especially given the alarming number of road accidents each year. “With participants displaying skills across various categories, this year’s rally not only marked a celebration of motorsports but also reinforced the message of inclusivity and empowerment within the community,” he added.
