Sukhu welcomes SC order, calls it significant relief
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to stay the Himachal Pradesh High Court’s order for the initiation of disqualification proceedings against the six MLAs, who were appointed as Chief Parliamentary Secretaries, in the state.
Sukhu, while interacting with mediapersons in New Delhi, said that the Supreme Court had provided clarity on the legal interpretation of the matter, which differed from paragraph 50 of the High Court’s decision. “The relief granted by the Supreme Court is significant. We will now deliberate on our next steps after considering all legal aspects,” he added.
He said that the BJP’s behaviour was “childish” and lacking focus on public issues. “The Opposition’s behaviour is childish as it is raising frivolous issues. Sometimes, it talks about ‘toilet tax’, sometimes it indulges in ‘samosa politics’. These are mere distractions,” he added.
Sukhu said that since the people of the state had rejected the BJP’s ‘Operation Lotus’ and the Congress successfully retained its strength of 40 seats in the Vidhan Sabha, the Opposition was making personal attacks on him with a view to diverting attention from the welfare schemes implemented by the state government over the past two years.
The Chief Minister said that the Opposition should act responsibly and raise issues pertaining to common people. He reiterated his government’s commitment to the welfare of the underprivileged and said that significant progress had been made in improving their socio-economic status during this tenure.
