Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has sought support from the Centre for developing new and integrated tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh.

Sukhu, who called on Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi today, sought help under special central assistance for various schemes. The Chief Minister said that the Detailed Project Report (DPRs) of the proposed projects will be submitted to the Government of India, shortly.

Sukhu sought Centre’s assistance in setting up a wellness centre-cum-health resort at Dehra in Kangra district, an integrated tourism complex at Auhar in Bilaspur, Chintpurni temple complex under Prashad Scheme and golf courses across the state. “The state government is promoting water sports in big way as Pong Dam and Bhakra Dam have immense potential in this regard,” he stated.

He said Himachal was committed to promoting sustainable development and promotion of tourism in the state. “Emphasis is being laid on developing infrastructure and improving connectivity to facilitate high end tourists. More heliports are being set up to connect all district headquarters besides expanding Kangra airport,” he said.

The Chief Minister said Himachal is working towards developing new tourist destinations for boosting tourism in the state. “The Pong dam reservoir has been selected as a tourist destination under Swadesh Darshan 2.0 and as such fund allocation must be expedited so that work could begin on the project,” he urged.
