Sukhu: Rohru govt college to be named after Virbhadra
Government College at Seema in the Rohru Assembly constituency of Shimla district will be named after former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, said Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu at a function held in the college today. The veteran Congress leader and six-time Chief Minister had represented Rohru in the Assembly and shared a special bond with local people.
The Chief Minister also announced that the B.Ed course would be started in the college from the next academic session. He said, “The standards of education had declined during the tenure of the previous BJP government, which had opened 900 educational and health institutions without making a budgetary provision with an eye on elections.” He added, “The state government is taking tough decisions in public interest and their positive results will be visible in near future.”
Sukhu said that new vocational courses would be started to ensure quality education and better employment opportunities for students. “Success in life can only be achieved through hard work and dedication and the government is committed to providing quality education in all educational institutions of the state,” he added.
The Chief Minister dedicated projects worth Rs 100.95 crore to the people of the Rohru Assembly constituency. These projects included a Rs 29.22 crore ultra modern grading, cold atmosphere (CA) store having a capacity of 2,031 MT, enhanced from the existing 700 MT, which would benefit the horticulturalists of the region.
Education Minister Rohit Thakur said that the state government was making dedicated efforts to strengthen the education sector. “As many as 15,000 posts of various categories have been approved in the Education Department while the previous BJP government had neither made any recruitment nor given promotions,” he claimed.
He said that the Congress government had approved Rs 1,134 crore road projects for the constituency. Rohru MLA Mohan Lal Brakta, vice-president of the Shimla Zila Parishad Surendra Retka, representatives of various panchayati raj institutions and HPMC Managing Director Sudesh Mokhta were present on the occasion.
