Sukhu: HPMC given licence to set up winery in Theog
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today said that the state government had granted a licence to the HP Horticulture Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation (HPMC) to set up a winery at Parala in the Theog area of Shimla district.
He said, “The Rs 86-crore winery will help strengthen the horticulture sector and create employment opportunities for local residents.” He added that the initiative would significantly benefit fruit growers by providing them with better and more remunerative prices for their produce, particularly apple, peaches and plums.
Sukhu said, “The winery at Parala represents a major step forward in value addition to horticultural produce, ensuring not only economic empowerment of the growers but also enhancing the state’s reputation as a hub of quality fruit-based products. The project aligns with the state government’s commitment to strengthening the horticulture and agriculture sectors by promoting modern infrastructure and innovative solutions.”
He said that besides boosting revenue, the winery was expected to create numerous direct and indirect job opportunities in production, processing, marketing and allied industries. “The state government remains focused on initiatives that enhance the income of farmers and horticulturists, enabling sustainable growth and development in rural areas of the state,” he added.
The Chief Minister said that Rs 163 crore had been disbursed under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) to clear pending dues, most of which were inherited from the previous BJP government.
