The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) here on Monday staged a protest outside the premises of Deputy Commissioner’s office against the violent clash that took place at Ramkrishna Mission Ashram last week, demanding an unbiased investigation into the matter.

ABVP national executive member Aman Aditi said land mafias were operating openly across the state, including Shimla.

“Rather than taking action against them, the administration is allegedly aiding their activities. These mafias are not just involved in land encroachments but are also exerting undue pressure on students and vulnerable sections of society,” he added.

He said the law and order situation in the state was deteriorating as incidents of theft, robbery, violence against women, and crimes among youth were on rise, which, according to him, indicated the administration’s failure to perform its duties.

He alleged that the people, who were involved in the incident, were brought in from other states and even from countries like Bangladesh, some of whom were bouncers.

“These individuals allegedly carried out the incident in a premeditated manner, which is a shameful episode for the state,” he added. They also criticised the police for “failing to identify these individuals or being informed about their arrival”, which, he said, raised suspicions of police involvement in the incident.

The ABVP accused the police of taking a biased approach in investigating the case and targeting its workers. The ABVP demanded an immediate halt to the activities of land mafias, and strict action against administrative officials who allegedly protect such mafias.
