Palampur: Stress on developing integrated farming system models to conserve environment

A meeting of the quinquennial review team (QRT) to review the “All India coordinated research project on integrated farming system” and “All India network programme on organic farming” was organised at farm varsity, Palampur, on July 6 to 7 under the chairmanship of Dr Arvind Kumar, former DDG (ICAR) & former Vice-Chancellor of Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University, Jhansi.
Scientists of Palampur University, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu; Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology ,Pantnagar; Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana; Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur and ICAR-Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute (ICAR- IASRI) New Delhi participated in the meeting.
Prof DK Vatsa, Vice-Chancellor, Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur, presided over the inaugural function and emphasised for the development of integrated farming system models to sustain the production and conserve the environment on a long-term basis. The chairman of the event specifically stressed upon the nutritional security of the large population of the country through highly productive farming system components, coupled with the adoption of bio-fortification approaches.
Other dignitaries present at the meeting were Dr VS Thakur, former Vice-Chancellor, Solan University, Dr AK Singh, former Vice-Chancellor, Bihar Agriculture University and Dr Kusumakar Sharma, former ADG, HRD (ICAR).
