Stray dogs maul 3-yr-old to death at Lahaul village
A three-year-old boy of Sumnam village in Lahaul-Spiti district lost his life after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs. The incident took place yesterday, when the victim, son of a Nepalese couple, was brutally mauled by the dogs, resulting in fatal injuries.
According to reports, the victim’s mother tried to rescue her son but the stray dogs severely wounded him. Later, she rushed the child to a hospital in Keylong, where the he succumbed to his injuries.
Tandi panchayat head Virender said the child was rushed to the hospital, but since he was seriously injured, he could not survive. He extended his condolences to the aggrieved family and emphasised the urgency of addressing the issue of stray dogs in the area.
Lahaul and Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana directed the district disaster management authorities to provide Rs 4 lakh compensation to the victim’s family. The local panchayat and villagers also extended all support to the victim’s family. Anuradha urged people, especially children and the elderly, to remain vigilant and take precautions against such dangers.
Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar instructed the Animal Husbandry Department, with the assistance of the local panchayat, to conduct sterilisation camps and take necessary measures to control the stray dog population in the region. The Deputy Commissioner said that Rs 10,000 had been given to the victim’s family as an immediate relief, while compensation would be provided to it according to the relief manual in a time-bound manner.
