Chamba, July 18

The MGNREGA scheme is proving to be effective in terms of development and employment generation as numerous projects are being implemented in rural areas, providing jobs to labourers near their homes, said Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania here today. He was addressing a meeting on the ongoing development works in various gram panchayats at the Block Development Officer’s office at Chowari.

Pathania said that Rs 18.27 crore had been allocated for 605 different development works under MGNREGA in 20 gram panchayats of the Bhattiyat development block. These include gram panchayats of Bagdhar, Beli, Balera, Chalama, Chuhan, Dhalog, Gadana, Ghatasni, Jiunta, Kakira Jarei, Kakira Kasba, Kuddhi, Mel, Mornoo, Nagoli, Nainikhad, Samleu, Sudli, Taragarh, and Tunuhatti under MGNREGA.

During 2024-25, 47,002 labourers from 28,124 families got employment for 2,40,218 workdays in the Bhattiyat development block. On the occasion, he also addressed various issues raised by people and directed the department officers concerned to resolve them.

Pathania told the public representatives and panchayat secretaries to prioritise development works in their areas and ensure their completion within the time frame so that the benefits could reach the residents on time. He emphasised that the panchayat representatives should give utmost priority to development works under MGNREGA and provide maximum job opportunities to local labourers under the scheme.

He said that there was no shortage of funds for development works and urged the representatives to work with dedication and honesty. He suggested reallocating funds for long-pending works that could not be initiated yet.

The Speaker highlighted the importance of quality in development works so that residents can benefit from long-term advantages. He encouraged all departmental officers to work with mutual coordination to expedite the development works in rural areas.

Senior vice president of Bhattiyat Block Congress Committee Krishna Chand, Bhattiyat Tehsildar Suman Dhiman, Tehsildar, along with various gram panchayat heads, vice-heads, panchayat secretaries, and other officers and employees were present on the occasion. After the meeting, the Speaker planted a deodar sapling in the PWD rest house premises in Chowari.
