Speaker inaugurates National Youth Parliament at HP varsity
The National Youth Parliament-2024, organised by the Department of Laws at Himachal Pradesh University, was inaugurated by Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Kuldeep Pathania. The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, marking the official start of the session.
Addressing the participants, Speaker Pathania emphasised that no single individual, ideology or institution is supreme, asserting that the system itself holds the highest authority. He highlighted the importance of understanding the interconnected roles of government, administration, judiciary and public institutions in upholding the Constitution. Pathania pointed out that while ideological differences are inevitable, each component of the system plays a crucial role in societal development, both in India and abroad.
The Speaker urged the students to study the social changes India has undergone before and after Independence, emphasising the importance of equal opportunities for all citizens to ensure social integration. He stressed that the integrity of public institutions depends on the actual implementation of policies, not just their announcement.
Reflecting on the history of reservations, Pathania noted that these were initially introduced for a 10-year period after Independence, but continue to this day, with laws being regularly reviewed and amended. He encouraged the Youth Parliament participants to actively engage in discussions on the Creamy Layer and Reservation (Amendment) Bill-2024, focusing on the policy changes needed for the benefit of society. He advised students to use their intellectual abilities and not to rely solely on technology.
Praising Himachal Pradesh University for its contributions to the state’s development, Pathania noted that its alumni serve across the nation and beyond. Over 170 students from universities in Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh are participating in this event, which centers on discussions around the Reservation Amendment Bill-2024.
