Solid waste mgmt training camp begins
Rampur, August 27
Under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a five-day community empowerment training camp on solid waste management was inaugurated today by the District Development Officer’s office in Kinnaur. The camp is being organised for representatives and social workers from Kalpa, Nichar and Pooh development blocks.
Presiding over the event, Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Sharma said the primary objective of the training camp was to ensure effective disposal of solid waste in order to keep the district clean. In line with this goal, the camp aims to train representatives and social workers from the three development blocks on proper solid waste disposal techniques, he added.
The DC highlighted that solid waste management has become a significant global issue. “The rapid pace of urbanisation and industrialisation has led to a substantial increase in waste generation. The problem has been further exacerbated by population growth and improved living standards,” he added. The DC elaborated on various methods for solid waste disposal, including recycling, landfill management, incineration, composting, vermiculture and pyrolysis.
He urged the participants to raise awareness about solid waste management in their respective areas, emphasising that collective efforts were essential to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of the tribal district.
Deepak Sanan (retd IAS officer) expressed his gratitude to the district administration for organising the training camp.
The training camp saw the participation of 40 representatives and social workers from the Kalpa, Nichar and Pooh development blocks. The event also witnessed the presence of renowned Indian social workers Somnath Sen, Ajit Kumar and others.
