Justice delayed is justice denied. This axiom seems to have inspired the police of Solan district to dispose of old cases dating back to as many as 25 years. While it does speak of the alleged lax investigation undertaken in the past decades, the fresh endeavour has lit a ray of hope among those seeking justice.

A special campaign has been launched to ensure quality in the investigation of criminal cases and to dispose of old cases, especially those lying pending for a long period or others requiring re-investigation, said SP Solan, Gaurav Singh.

“During this special campaign,18 old cases have been disposed of and sent to courts for trial. These comprise cases of fraud, with the oldest one dating back to 1999 and pertaining to the Parwanoo police station. Apart from this, the cases disposed of after re-investigation pertain to years 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013 to 2021,’’added the SP.

A chargesheet has been presented in court regarding a 25-year-old case of fraud registered at the Parwanoo police station which dates back to 1999. A case of cheating and forgery was registered and during the preliminary investigation, a dismissal report was prepared in this case owing to shoddy investigation.

During the re-investigation of the case, a charge-sheet was prepared after a thorough investigation against the accused and presented in the court on October 18.

Apart from this, during the last one year, 30 such pending cases of heinous crime, which were under investigation, have been disposed of on a priority basis by the district police. These were under investigation for the last about five years due to some reason or the other. The disposed cases include those registered in 2019, 2020, 2021, 18 of the year 2022 and seven of the year 2023.
