Society needs to unite to eradicate drug menace, says Education Minister Rohit Thakur at sports event
Expressing concern over the rising drug abuse in the state, Education Minister Rohit Thakur said the society needed to unite to completely eradicate the menace.
While attending the closing ceremony of sports events, organised by Jubbal police, the minister said drug addiction had become a huge challenge for the society and serious consequences were beginning to emerge due to it.
The sports events were organised by the Police Department under the campaign ‘Nasha Chhodo Khel Khelo’, the aim of which is to motivate the youth to stay away from drugs and participate in sports.
The minister said such events were necessary to send a positive message to the youth and society. He said the government had decided to show no tolerance towards drug abuse. He said eight teams of Rohru subdivision participated in the awareness camp for drug prevention and volleyball competition. Apart from this, four teams of local youth groups participated in volleyball event and a few teams of women’s groups participated in the tug of war competition.
After this, the minister reached Nakradi village where he dedicated the newly constructed Panchayat Bhawan, built at a cost of Rs 33 lakh, to the public. He promised a budget provision for the bhawan’s roof would also be made as soon as possible, so that the safety of the building was ensured. He also announced a Rs 51,000 grant to a local club to promote sports events.
