Social bodies protest illegal construction in Nurpur mosque
Up in arms against the ongoing alleged illegal construction at a mosque in the Chogan locality of the town, various social organisations, led by APJ Abdul Kalam Charitable Trust Nurpur secretary Ankush Mehra and local RSS office-bearers, staged a protest in front of the mini-secretariat premises on Monday. The protesters raised the demand of immediate demolition of the alleged illegal construction being carried out in the mosque.
They also submitted a memorandum to the local administration through Tehsildar Radika Saini. In the memorandum, the organisations have alleged that a maulvi, who hails form Chamba district, has occupied the mosque land and raised illegal structures on it.
They claimed that as per an order of the HP High Court, on khasra number 133 pertained to the mosque, new construction had been prohibited, but the maulvi had been raising illegal structures by occupying the mosque land — adjacent to the retaining wall of a newly constructed hospital.
The members of these organisations have warned that if the administration failed to take strict, people would demolish the structure themselves. They have also appealed to the concerned government authorities to enforce HC’s stay order in letter and spirit.
