Skating starts at Shimla club
Ice skating has started at the historic Shimla Ice Skating Club. The first session of the season was held on Wednesday at the Skating Rink. “We’ve managed to start ice skating a little earlier than last year owing to cold and dry weather over the last few days,” said Pankaj Prabhakar, an ice skating coach and executive member of the club. On the first day, only a few skating enthusiasts turned up at the rink. Once the schools are closed, the number of skaters will go up. Prabhakar said skating will be held only during the morning session for the next few days. Due to the shorter and warmer winters, the number of ice skating sessions is gradually declining. A plan is afoot to turn this over 100-year-old natural ice skating rink into an all-weather skating rink.
