Sirmaur ZP chief lays stress on timely resolution of public issues

During a quarterly meeting of the Sirmaur Zila Parishad (ZP), its Chairperson Seema Kanyal emphasised on the importance of addressing public issues raised by council members within a specified timeframe to ensure tangible benefits reach the grassroots level. While addressing participants at the meeting she said resolution of such matters in a timely and financially efficient manner was crucial for the effective governance.

The chairperson underscored the value of these council meetings for the public good and urged all responsible officials to ensure their participation, noting that such attendance was essential for prompt decision-making.

Additionally, she called on senior officials of departments responsible for providing basic amenities — such as roads, water supply, healthcare and electricity — to personally oversee issues raised by council members on behalf of the public.

A significant issue discussed during the meeting was the progress of the Uthaoo Drinking Water Scheme for Badol. In response to Kanyal’s inquiry, Executive Engineers of Jal Shakti Nohradhar and the Electricity Department reported that 80 per cent of the project had been completed and the remaining work was expected to finish in three months. Besides, water shortages in villages including Juinidhar, Bhalad Bhalona and Lana Paler were highlighted, with Kanyal urging authorities concerned to expedite resolutions.

District council members Anand Parmar, Satish Thakur, Mam Raj Thakur, Neelam Devi, Sarvan Kumar, Nirmala Devi and Om Prakash raised other public-related concerns at the meeting. These included teacher vacancies in schools, rerouting of power lines that pass over homes and rectification of errors in the selection of beneficiaries under the Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP).

District Development Officer and Zila Parishad Secretary Abhishek Mittal, who attended the meeting, called on all officials to ensure timely resolution of the matters presented by council members. The session was attended by District Council Vice-Chairperson Anjana Sharma, heads of block development committees and officials from rural development, panchayati raj and other departments.
