In a robust effort to enhance road safety and address the rising concern of drunken driving, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Aditi Singh led an intensive overnight crackdown in Paonta Sahib. The campaign, conducted throughout the night, saw the SDPO overseeing operations on the ground, sending a clear and strong message that driving under the influence of alcohol will not be tolerated.

The special operation, aimed at targeting drivers who violate traffic laws by driving intoxicated, involved the setting up of dedicated checkpoints in the key areas of Paonta Sahib. SDPO Aditi Singh, along with her police team, carried out rigorous inspections at these checkpoints to detect and penalise those driving under the influence of alcohol.

The operation resulted in the issuance of 11 challans under the Motor Vehicles Act, with the driving licenses of all offenders being confiscated. The police have initiated procedures to suspend the confiscated licenses for a period of three months and official communication with the relevant department is underway.

SDPO Aditi Singh said, “Driving under the influence of alcohol is not only a danger to the driver, but also poses a significant risk to other road users. Our aim is to ensure the safety of everyone on the road and this operation is a step towards reducing road accidents caused by intoxicated driving.”

She further emphasised that the campaign against drunken driving is not a one-time event, but part of a sustained effort to create awareness and enforce road safety measures. “We will continue these strict enforcement actions to ensure that road users adhere to traffic regulations and help bring down the number of accidents in the region,” she added.

The campaign has been widely appreciated by the locals, who have long been concerned about the dangers posed by reckless driving under the influence of alcohol. The strict enforcement and visible police presence are expected to deter drivers from engaging in such risky behaviour.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Himachal Pradesh Police to improve road safety standards and ensure compliance with the traffic rules.

The Paonta Sahib police are making significant strides in reducing the number of road accidents caused by drunken driving. The authorities are hopeful that continued efforts will bring about a positive change in driving behaviour and enhance the overall safety of the region’s roads.
