Shimla gears up for carnival with enhanced security steps
The Shimla police are gearing up to maintain law and order during the upcoming Winter Carnival from December 24 to January 2. Around 300 police personnel will be deployed across the town to ensure safety and smooth operations. The district police have also sought additional personnel from the Police Headquarters to support enforcement efforts during the event.
Shimla SP Sanjeev Gandhi said the police were fully prepared for the carnival. “Special focus will be on curbing drug peddlers and miscreants to ensure that tourists and locals enjoy the event without any trouble,” he said.
Traffic management will also be a key priority, with a comprehensive traffic plan already in place. The district has been divided into five sectors to handle challenges arising from snowfall during the winter season. Geo-mapping of problematic areas has been conducted, and contingency plans are ready to address potential disruptions.
The Winter Carnival will feature cultural performances and events, showcasing traditions from all 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh. The historic Ridge and The Mall will serve as primary venues, adorned with decorative lights. Performances by artists from Punjab and local talents will add to the festive charm.
With a focus on ensuring a memorable experience for visitors, the police are committed to maintaining order and addressing weather-related challenges effectively.
