Shanta Kumar, former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader, on Tuesday expressed concern over power crises in Palampur town and its adjoining areas. He said unannounced power cuts in Palampur had made the lives of people miserable.

Talking to newsmen at his residence here this morning Shanta Kumar said power supply situation had worsened in Palampur in the past few months because of unannounced power cuts every third day.

He said only yesterday there was eight hour power cut in Palampur in biting cold. When he asked a senior officer of the HPSEBL about the power situation he failed to get a satisfactory reply.

Shanta Kumar said he spoke to Additional Chief Secretary (power) Ram Subagh Singh who was unaware of the power situation at Palampur. However, he assured him that he would look into the matter.

He said it was a matter of concern that despite that Himachal was a major power producer and also had surplus power.
