SFI, cops scuffle at Sanjauli college protest
A scuffle broke out between activists of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) and police personnel during a protest held by the student body against the rustication of six students of Centre of Excellence, Government Post Graduate College, Sanjauli.
Hundreds of SFI activists gathered outside the college today, raising slogans against college authorities.
The protesters demanded immediate revocation of the rustication of the students.
SFI Sanjauli college unit president Pravesh alleged that the college administration had expelled six student leaders on Friday due to "political animosity".
According to the protesters, the student leaders had demanded strict action by the college administration against a student who allegedly misbehaved with and molested a girl student of the college last Thursday.
"The SFI had called for a protest on the college campus, demanding strict action against the accused. However, the college administration tried to curb the democratic right of students to hold a protest,” the campus president added.
He alleged that instead of taking action against the person accused of molestation, the college administration had taken action against SFI workers due to “animosity”.
"The administration is trying to suppress the matter. SFI activists studying at the Sanjauli college are being prevented from entering the campus," he said.
