Seminar on Bhagat Singh’s contributions to journalism
The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Vallabh Government College here organised a one-day seminar, titled ‘Revolutionary Bhagat Singh: A Great Journalist’ to commemorate the 117th birth anniversary of Bhagat Singh.
The seminar was chaired by Flying Officer Dr Chaman, the head of the department.
In his address, Dr Chaman emphasised Bhagat Singh’s impactful role as a journalist, highlighting how he wielded his pen as a powerful tool in the revolutionary struggle for freedom, equality and justice. He noted that Singh wrote for prominent magazines such as Kirti, Pratik, Veer Arjun and Arjun, often using pseudonyms like ‘Balwant’ and ‘Vidrohi’. Dr Chaman elaborated on how Bhagat Singh’s journalism conveyed revolutionary ideas to the masses, reflecting his ideological beliefs and socialist outlook. He pointed out that Singh’s writings inspired youth to join the freedom movement and tackle issues of colonial exploitation and social injustice.
Assistant Professor Aditi Sharma also spoke at the seminar, praising Singh’s writings for their role in raising political and social awareness among the Indian populace. Various students from the department, including Ankush, Rohit, Nancy Rana, and others shared their insights on the matter reinforcing the seminar’s message about the enduring impact of Bhagat Singh’s thoughts and writings on India’s struggle for Independence.
