Season’s first rain turns Nurpur road into mud track

Nurpur, July 5

During the last two days, Nurpur witnessed its first two rains of the season, turning the Housing Board Colony-Chinva link road into a muddy, slippery path. This has greatly inconvenienced residents of the colony and other areas of Ward 2 of the Nurpur Municipal Council.

Area residents have expressed their resentment against the authorities concerned, who, according to them, took no steps to clear the choked drains on the sides of this stretch of the road before the monsoon.

The risk of injury due to accidents on this slushy stretch of the road looms over area residents, especially two-wheeler riders and pedestrians.

Several two-wheelers have reportedly skidded at this stretch. As houses in the colony have been constructed along a hill that has loose strata, heavy rains pose a grave threat to residents and commuters.

The road leads to the local government Industrial Training Institute and Chinva village of Ganhi-Lagor gram panchayat. It is frequented by many for their morning and evening walks.

Residents Praveen Sangalia, Dr Vipon Mahajan, Umesh Kumar and Bhupinder Singh said morning and evening walks on this road were a part of their daily routines. Due to the poor condition of the road, they could not continue with their walks, they lamented.

Roadside drains, which were already choked, are now filled with mud and debris, they added, appealing to the local civic body and the Public Works Department to ensure that the drains are cleaned.
