Schoolteacher loses life in road accident
A road accident occurred late last night near Chauras in the Nauradhar region of Sirmaur district, claiming the life of a schoolteacher and leaving another person injured. The accident happened around 11:30 pm when a Scorpio vehicle (HP14C4580) carrying four passengers, en route to Kupvi, became stuck on a slippery road caused by snowfall.
Two passengers got out to push the vehicle, but it suddenly gained momentum and plunged into a gorge. Ved Prakash, a schoolteacher from Kulag, Kupvi subdivision in Shimla district, was trapped inside and died on the spot. Another passenger, Rajesh, was thrown out of the vehicle during the accident, sustaining injuries but surviving the fall.
The police recovered Ved Prakash’s body and handed it over to his family after conducting a post-mortem. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.
Sangrah Deputy Superintendent of Police Mukesh Dhadwal highlighted the dangers of travelling in snowy weather and urged drivers to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel on snow-covered roads to prevent such tragedies.
