The Sanjauli Muslim Masjid committee has distanced itself from the statements made by AIMIM Delhi president Shoaib Jamai in a video circulating on social media.

In the video shot inside the Sanjauli masjid, Jamai is seen questioning the legality of the buildings around the mosque, which sparked communal tension in the state a few weeks ago.

“The adjacent buildings are of equal height, so how could masjid alone be unauthorised? We will file a PIL in the High Court regarding the matter,” he said.

Communal tension had flared up in the state earlier this month when the majority community claimed that the masjid was illegal and demanded its demolition.

In response, the local masjid committee offered to remove the unauthorised construction itself if permitted.

The decision on the matter is pending in the court of the Shimla MC Commissioner. “We don’t agree with what Shoaib Jamai has said in his video, and we stand by what we have said earlier on the matter,” said Latif Mohammed, president of the Sanjauli Masjid Committee.
