Role of parents, teachers crucial in empowering kids: Health min
The comprehensive development of children is essential for building a strong foundation for the nation.
This was said by Health and Family Welfare Minister Dhani Ram Shandil while addressing the students and teachers during the annual prize distribution ceremony at Mount Shivalik Public School, Jubbarhatti, in Shimla district. He was the chief guest at the event.
During his address, the minister said the role of teachers, parents and the society was crucial in empowering children in the right direction.
“Education differentiates humans from animals. Without education, we cannot become capable individuals. Education fosters humility in a person,” he said.
The minister advocated for the inclusion of National Cadet Corps (NCC) as an essential subject, highlighting its role in the holistic development of students.
“If children embrace the NCC, they will cultivate qualities beneficial for the nation. The contribution of NCC cadets during emergencies can be significant,” he added.
He also emphasised the importance of instilling a sense of patriotism among children, urging the need to ignite a desire for national service.
He praised students for their cultural performances, and said, “It is vital to develop self-confidence in children. If their self-confidence is lacking, we must guide them.”
Pointing out the alarming rise in substance abuse among children and the youth, the minster called for collective efforts to keep them away from drugs. “We need to promote extracurricular activities and raise awareness about sports among children. We must take steps to develop playfields in our surroundings,” he said.
During the ceremony, he also announced a financial grant of Rs 21,000 from his voluntary fund to support students who participated in the cultural programmes.
