Residents want revival of Gania lift irrigation scheme
The residents of Nariga, Gania and Bountala in Shimla district are upset over the indifferent attitude of the Jal Shakti Department, which has not taken any step to revive the 20-year-old Gania lift irrigation scheme, as a result of which hundreds of bighas of land has become barren. The scheme was dedicated to people by former MLA Roop Das Kashyap but it is lying defunct for the past four years and the machinery installed at the pumping station has worn out. Several resolutions have been passed at meetings of Krishi Vikas Sangh in the recent years but no action has been taken so far. The department concerned should immediately start work to revive this scheme. — Bala Ram Verma, Gania-Nariga
Waterlogging near ITI Mandi
Just as the monsoon has started, waterlogging on roadside in front of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Mandi, has begun too, causing inconvenience to the residents of the town. The ITI road is used by residents to walk between the bus stand and Mandi main town. The authorities concerned should make a smooth passage for the drainage of rain water in the area. — Suresh Kumar, Mandi
