Remote Lahaul village gets road

Yoche, the last village of Darcha panchayat in the Lahaul valley in Lahaul and Spiti district, was connected with a road on Thursday.
Ram Lal Markanda, Technical Education Minister, inaugurated the Yeche bridge constructed at a cost of Rs 2.10 crore to connect Yoche and Baltojing villages with a road.
The minister said that the road connectivity to Yoche and Baltojing villages was the key demand of the people of the region, which had been fulfilled by the state government after the inauguration of the bridge.
He said earlier, people of these villages had to ferry their agricultural produce till the road on mules by paying hefty carriage amounts. With the road connectivity, they will be able to manage the transport of their produce to distant markets in a better way.
Markanda also inaugurated the forest rest house at Udaipur, constructed at a cost of Rs 25 lakh, a building of the Public Works Department at a cost of Rs 80 lakh, besides laying the foundation stone of the Industrial Training Institute hostel at Udaipur.
He said three new trades would be introduced at the ITI in Lahaul and Spiti in the coming session.
