Reinstate expelled students, demands students’ body
The Shimla district committee of the Students Federation of India (SFI) here today staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office against the expulsion of six students from the Centre of Excellence, Government Post Graduate College, Sanjauli, and demanded from the college authorities to immediately reinstate the students. The SFI district secretary Kamal said the expulsion of the students was “very unfortunate”.
“The SFI activists have been protesting in the college against the increase in the hostel and PTA fees as well as the non-subsidised café inside the campus for a long time,” he said.
“The SFI has also been protesting for the formation of a gender sensitive committee to strengthen the women’s safety inside the campus,” he added.
“On September 18, when SFI activists approached the college administration regarding the matter of molestation of a girl student within the campus, some people of the administration misbehaved with the students and tried to suppress the matter. The next day, the SFI workers approached the Principal, demanding action from the administration and take the matter seriously,” said Kamal.
He further alleged that professors manhandled SFI activists during the protest and later the college authorities expelled the students who were beaten up by the professors.
