Rampur MC prez election put off due to lack of quorum
Rampur, July 10
Election for the positions of president and vice-president of the Rampur Municipal Council has been postponed due to lack of quorum. Despite having a majority of Congress-supported councillors, internal disputes led to a no-confidence motion against the president and vice-president over a year ago, leaving these positions vacant.
An election meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Rampur SDM Nishant Tomar and only six out of the nine councillors were present at the meeting. The quorum requirement of three-fourth members (seven councillors) was not met.
The no-confidence motion against the president and vice-president was passed by the Congress-supported councillors, with the help of the BJP-supported councillors, leading to their removal from office a year ago. Since then, political disputes among the councillors have delayed the election of new officials, affecting development and public service projects in Rampur.
According to the SDM, another meeting will be held on July 13 at 11 am in the Town Hall of Rampur to conduct the election as per the rules of the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Council Election Rules 2015, Section 89 (7).
BJP councillor Swati Bansal expressed her disappointment, stating that the absence of a president and vice-president for one year has hindered various development projects in the region.
